Yesterday*, the Egyptian national team won its 6th African Cup of Nations title (the second in a row) beating Cameroon (with their Eto'os and their Songs) 1-0 in a marvelous game. Egypt's goal (scored in the 77th minute) was scored by Mohamed Abou Treika from a magnificent pass by Mohamed Zidan who cut the ball from over, under and in between Rigobert Song's feet.
Personally, I was so glad-being an Egyptian and everything-with what the team did and how they've played. They rose to the occasion and played a wonderful game, something we would expect from the defending champions. The whole team was excellent... from Essam El Hadary, who was named best goal keeper of the tournament to Emad Motaeb, who was unlucky during the tournament and who was replaced half way through yesterday's game.
For once, I was really grateful that I was born an Egyptian and that Egypt came first! Don't get me wrong, I really love my country and everything about it but this time, it was a different feeling, a different kind of pride.
*Note that a day of my counting is not your usual 24 hour day, my day begins when I wake up and ends when I goto sleep! So, even if I sleep at say 2AM on a certain day, it still counts as part of that same day. Afterall, it is MY DAY!
