Robocon

How the... ? Robo... What? Who?

Well, I’ve been part of my university’s Robocon team for more than a semester now and believe me, it is not as easy a graduation project as you might think. And since it is both my graduation project as well as a university funded project, I am left with no choice but to work my buttox off! But first of all, let me give you a brief idea of what the Robocon is. Robocon is a pan-Asian contest held every year with universities from all over Asia participating in it by first winning the national qualifiers (of their country). Each year, the organizing committee selects a certain game with its own rules and regulation. This year’s game is based on the Govinda, an old indian tradition.

[For more information about the competition and its rules, please visit www.roboconindia.com/].

But if this is an Asian competition then what does Egypt have to do with all this?!

I’ve always been wondered the same question and I bet that by now you’re wondering the same thing too but, apparently, since Sinai-which is a part of Egypt by the way-is actually located in Asia, we’re entitled to participate in the Asian competition! (Well… you tell me!)

But what is the problem?!

Now back to the brutal reality, and as I was telling you earlier, this whole Robocon business did not turn out to be any fun, it is full of tedious, boring and hard work. And if this wasn’t enough, God has bestowed upon us with one of the most demented, psychotic teaching assistants on Earth. The kind of guy that would suck the life out of you, the kind of guy that would make you honestly believe that you are better off working alone than having any assistance of any kind and finally, the kind of guy that would make you take down a perfectly functioning robot just to make the same exact one, again! If it wasn’t for this guy, it would have been fun. I despise him not only on a professional level but personally as well. Do not get me wrong but all the metal work and electrical/programming, I could put up with but the kind of treatment he’s been giving us, that… I didn’t sign up for and certainly not on a daily basis. Anyway, I hope it all turns well, although I doubt that it will.

When and Where…

You could catch us (my team an I) everyday from 10 AM at AAST Cairo’s workshop even during the midterm break! And for those of you who want to support us during the games, Egypt’s national Robocon finals for this year are going to be held on the first week of July in the covered hall of the Cairo stadium, come down, watch us play and maybe give us a shout or two!
